Serbian-Australian actress Bojana Novakovic is uniquely qualified to comment on the differences between Australian and American men and, speaking in an Airbnb apartment in New York’s East Village, she tells it like it is.

“It’s really hard for the men here to be arseholes on a date,” says Novakovic. “They’re just not bringing their masculine, sexual energy. Whereas in Australia it’s really f–king easy, here I actually have to tell them to be arseholes: ‘Don’t worry, I can take it.'”

There’s a good reason Novakovic craves the friction of a high-conflict tryst. Novakovic is in New York for the annual COIL performance festival, starring in The Blind Date Project, a sell-out hit at the Sydney Festival in 2013.
